About the Brentwood Shakespeare Company
Performing each year in the spring, the Brentwood Shakespeare Company delivers high quality and professional theatre productions to Brentwood and Essex. The theatre company is run by a management committee and it does not feature a company of actors. As a result, open auditions are held each year to maintain fresh performances and provide local talent with opportunities to perform and develop their talents. The Brentwood Shakespeare Company produces one performance annually, with productions typically held at the Brentwood Theatre in April or May.
Founded in 1994, the theatre company strives to bring Shakespeare's works and theatrical productions at the highest of standards to local audiences. As its name implies, the company concentrates on the works of William Shakespeare. Recent productions by the Brentwood Shakespeare Company have included performances of A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Merchant of Venice, Richard III, The Taming of the Shrew, and The Merry Wives of Windsor.
Brentwood Theatre is the home venue of the Brentwood Shakespeare Company. The theatre was purpose-built to serve as a professional venue for dozens of local non-professional performing arts groups, including dance, drama and musical performers. Built in 1993, the theatre's first patron is Brentwood-born actor Stephen Moyer, the main star of HBO's True Blood. The subtle facility is owned and operated by Brentwood Theatre Trust, a registered charity, and is supported by mainly volunteers. The Brentwood Theatre is one of the community's main cultural attractions and venues.
The auditorium at the Brentwood Theatre may be configured in various formats, depending on production needs. The theatre accommodates up to 176 seats. In addition to flexible seating and staging, the venue features high-quality lighting and sound. The auditorium also features seating for patrons with disabilities.
